Pakistan Baluch Separatist Leader Reported Killed

A top official in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan Province says the leader of the banned separatist Baluch Liberation Front (BLF) has been killed.

Balochistan’s Home Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said in the provincial capital, Quetta, on September 8 that “according to unconfirmed reports,” Allah Nazar Baloch had been killed in in an operation by security forces.

“I say unverified because we have not yet received any evidence of his being alive ever since the [paramilitary] Frontier Corps conducted a series of operations,” he added.

No more details were provided.

Balochistan is the scene of a low-intensity insurgency by nationalist and separatist Baluch groups, who want a share of revenue from gas and mineral resources and complete autonomy from Islamabad.

It's also home to Taliban insurgents, drug smugglers, kidnapping rings, sectarian militants, and government-backed paramilitary death squads.
