Pakistan Ends Search At Collapsed Factory, Death Toll At 45

A rescue operation to pull people from the rubble of a collapsed Pakistani factory ended on November 10 after nearly a week, with the final death toll at 45 and more than 100 survivors plucked from the debris.

The plastic bag factory near Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore came crashing down on November 4, with officials saying it may have suffered structural damage when a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit Pakistan and Afghanistan in October.

Arshad Zia, the chief of rescue services said the search for bodies and survivors is no finished and that authorities believe “there is nobody in the remaining debris.”

Some 1,000 rescuers from Punjab province, the capital Islamabad, and the armed forces took part in the search and rescue.

On November 6, rescuers found a teenager still alive who had been trapped for 50 hours under the rubble.
