Pakistani Military Rescues Kidnapped Son Of Top Judge

The Pakistani Army and paramilitary troops have rescued the kidnapped son on a top judge in a predawn raid in the country's restive northwest, the army said on July 19.

Awais Shah, a lawyer himself, was kidnapped by militants last month in the port city of Karachi, in southern Sindh Province

Pakistani Army spokesman Asim Bajwa said Shah was being transported by his captors in the town of Dera Ismail Khan when security forces, acting on intelligence, swooped in and rescued him.

He said that "three terrorists were killed" in a shoot-out with the militants.

Bajwa said Shah was kidnapped by a Taliban splinter group, but gave no further details.

Pakistani TV later broadcast footage showing Shah, who is in his 20s, arriving at his home in Karachi.
