Pakistan's government has summoned the Indian envoy to Islamabad to protest against the deaths of two Pakistani soldiers in crossborder fire in the disputed region of Kashmir.

Pakistan says Indian troops shot and killed one of its troops January 10, after another soldier had been shot dead January 6.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Indian high commissioner was told that the attack was "unacceptable."

India staged a similar diplomatic protest earlier this week after it said that two of its soldiers were killed and their bodies mutilated by Pakistani troops.

Pakistan has denied the allegations.

Kashmir is divided between the two nuclear-armed neigbors by a heavily fortified border known as the Line of Control.

Based on reporting by AP, AFP, Reuters, and dpa

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
