Gunmen on a motorcycle shot dead a TV producer in Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, on February 18 in what appeared to be a botched robbery attempt.
Police said 45-year-old Athar Mateen, who worked for the private Samaa news channel, was killed in unclear circumstances as he was heading home after dropping his children off at school.
Some witnesses said that he rammed his car into a motorcycle carrying two men who attempted to snatch the belongings of a passerby. Others said Mateen himself had been the target of the robbery and that he tried to escape by driving his vehicle into the attackers' motorcycle.
One of the attackers managed to open fire on Mateen's car, killing him, police said. The attackers then disappeared after hijacking a motorcycle from another man, police said.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has ordered an investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident.
Karachi, a port city of some 15 million people in southern Pakistan, is notorious for street crime.
