Three people have been killed in an explosion in Pakistan's restive South Waziristan tribal district, although accounts from officials varied over the cause of the blast.
Intelligence sources told RFE/RL Radio Mashaal correspondent Ishtiaq Mehsud that it was a suicide attack.
But police officials said the explosion was caused by a land mine.
Police said the explosion took place near a shop in Chakmalai Market.
The blast killed two surrendered Taliban members and a paramilitary Frontier Corps soldier, officials said.
Two more people suffered injuries.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Pakistan's South Waziristan has witnessed increasing Taliban attacks in recent months.
Six policemen were killed in an ambush in the Lakki Marwat district, near the Waziristan region, on November 16.
The outlawed Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for that attack.
