Pakistan's Supreme Court has lifted restrictions barring the country’s former envoy to the United States from leaving Pakistan.

The travel ban was imposed on former envoy Husain Haqqani after he was forced to resign amid allegations that he was involved in drafting a secret memo to U.S. officials seeking Washington’s help in curbing the power of the Pakistani military.

News of the memo heightened tensions between the military and civilian government, and a Supreme Court commission has opened a probe of the case.

Haqqani, who has denied any involvement in the memo, is quoted as saying he intends to travel back to the United States to join family members there.
