Police said suspected Islamic militants today raided the house of a female police officer in northwest Pakistan, killing her and five relatives.
The attack occurred in the district of Hangu, in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Province.
Militants often attack male security officials in Pakistan's northwest, but women are rare in such positions in the deeply conservative region. It appeared to be the first time one was directly targeted.
The militants reportedly had threatened 50-year old Shamshad Begum to quit her job or she would be killed.
