Pakistani Teen Malala Arrives In Britain For Treatment, Protection

A teenage Pakistani peace and education activist who was gunned down last week by one or more Taliban militants has arrived in Britain for specialized medical care and protection from follow-up attacks threatened by Islamic militant.

Malala Yusafzai was flown from Islamabad to the United Kingdom on October 15 in a specialized plane provided by the United Arab Emirates.

The British government has confirmed that Malala will be cared for at a Birmingham hospital.

The Pakistani military has said Malala will require prolonged care to fully recover from the physical and psychological effects of her injuries and trauma.

Malala was shot while leaving her school last week in Pakistan's northwestern Swat Valley.

Taliban targeted her for promoting education rights for girls.
