Pakistan's Sharif 'Much Satisfied' With Indian Premier Talks

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has written a letter to new Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing satisfaction with their "meaningful" first meeting.

Sharif and Modi met in New Delhi last month after the Indian prime minister's inauguration.

In the letter, Sharif said he returned from the trip "much satisfied" and was thankful to Modi for his generosity during the visit.

Sharif added that he is looking forward to resolving all "unsettled matters" between the two countries.

The letter was sent to India's Foreign Ministry last week but was first made public on June 11.

Modi, a Hindu nationalist known for some hard-line views, has surprised observers by reaching out so early in his rule to rivals Pakistan and China.

Since gaining independence from Britain in 1947, nuclear powers India and Pakistan have fought three wars.
