Pakistani Guard Shoots Boy Wearing 'Monster Mask'

Police in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi say a security guard has shot dead an 11-year-old boy who was wearing a "monster mask."

They said the boy sneaked up on the guard in an attempt to scare him in Ferozabad area late on March 20, and the guard responded by opening fire.

The boy was taken to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The guard has been taken into custody.

The initial investigation suggests that the guard was panicked and shot the boy.

The boy's family and local residents staged a protest over the shooting.

Reports say Karachi has thousands of private security guards, many of whom are poorly paid and have not received proper training.

Based on reporting by Dawn, The Express Tribune, and the BBC
