The photo of a Turkish gendarmerie carrying the body of 3-year-old Syrian Aylan Kurdi, whose body washed up on a beach in Bodrum, dominated the front pages of newspapers around the world on September 3. Aylan's 5-year-old brother and mother also died when their boat capsized as it headed for Greece. The haunting image brought home the human cost of the migrant and refugee crisis currently facing European Union countries. (epa/Andy Rain)
