Polish Authorities Thwart 'Terrorist Attack'

Polish authorities have arrested a man who they say was plotting a devastating terrorist attack against the country's leadership.

The unnamed suspect allegedly planned to detonate a four-ton car bomb outside the parliament when the president, prime minister, cabinet ministers, and lawmakers were inside.

The man reportedly possessed explosive materiel, ammunition, and guns.

At a news conference in Warsaw, prosecutor Piotr Krason said the man, a university researcher from Krakow, does not belong to a political group but said he was driven by "nationalistic, antisemitic, and xenophobic motives."

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk says there is a link between the man and Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in gun and bomb attacks in Norway last year.

Tusk said that the Polish suspect had a "fascination" with Breivik and that an analysis of Breivik's contacts abroad had helped lead Polish investigators to the suspect.
