Police in Russia’s Siberian city of Novosibirsk say they have launched an investigation after a woman was seriously injured when she set herself on fire in the office of President Vladimir Putin's ruling United Russia party.

Police said the middle-age woman doused herself with an incendiary liquid and torched herself in the office on July 18. She and at least four employees of the office were hospitalized with burns, and dozens of people were evacuated from the building.

Officials said 70 square meters of the building were destroyed by the fire.

According to the authorities, initial indications are that the woman carried out the self-immolation in response to litigation with a construction firm.

The regional investigative agency said probes have been launched into possible “attempted suicide" and "inciting suicide.”
