A Polish military prosecutor has shot himself after cutting short a news conference in which he had defended a military investigation into leaks related to a plane crash that killed Poland's president nearly two years ago.

Local media said military prosecutor Mikolay Przybyl was taken to a hospital after he was found in a pool of blood in his office in the western city of Poznan.

Shortly before, he had asked journalists to leave his office after he criticized media leaks into the plane crash in Smolensk, Russia, on April 10, 2010 which killed Poland's then-President Lech Kaczynski and 95 others.

He had also said prosecutors had the right to seek phone records of journalists covering the investigation.

Przybyl's life is reportedly not in danger.
