Russian President Vladimir Putin has called British singer Elton John and proposed a meeting, Putin’s spokesman told Russian media on September 24.
After the British rock star posted on Instagram last week a message thanking Putin for calling him, two Russian pranksters said they had duped John into believing he had spoken by telephone with Putin.
On September 24, Peskov quoted Putin as saying: "I know that those phone pranksters fooled you. Please don't be angry with them."
Earlier this month, John, who is openly gay, spoke out against Russia’s law banning "propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations" and comments made by Putin suggesting that gay people prey on children.
