Rebels Start Evacuation From Syria's Homs

Hundreds of Syrian rebels began evacuating their last bastions in the central city of Homs under a ceasefire deal struck last week with government forces.

Homs governor Talal Barazi says rebels boarded several buses and left the city on May 7, heading to the towns of Talbiseh and al-Dar al-Kabira on the northern edge of Homs province.

Rebels' representatives said that up to 1,200 fighters will leave the city on May 7, handing it over to government forces.

In exchange, opposition will allow aid into two northern pro-government villages besieged by the rebels.

Rebel-held central neighborhoods of Homs have been besieged by Syrian government forces for more than a year, causing widespread hunger.
