Kazakhstan's Interior Ministry says the remains of a 12th possible victim of a mass murder appear to have been found in the ruins of a burned-out building in a national park near the city of Almaty.

The identity of the apparent victim was not immediately announced.

Last week, 11 slain men and women, five burned beyond recognition, were found at the site in Ile-Alatau National Park.

The victims included the park's senior forest ranger, Panayot Zakharopulo, 76, his relatives and fellow forest rangers.

Police say they have been searching for Zakharopulo's missing son.

In late May, a Kazakh forest ranger and 14 border guards were killed and burned at a remote outpost in the same region along the Kazakh-Chinese border.

Officials have not established a link between the two cases.
