Russian Biathlete Tests Positive For Meldonium

A Russian biathlete has been suspended from competition after testing positive for meldonium.

The International Biathlon Union temporarily suspended 21-year-old Eduard Latypov after his drug test showed traces of the banned substance in a sample taken during a competition last month.

Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova this week announced that she had tested positive for meldonium, which some researchers have linked to increased athletic performance and endurance.

Sharapova admitted she had failed to realize that meldonium had been outlawed since January 1.
