The Russian Foreign Ministry has issued a critical report on the human rights situation in the United States.
Presenting the report to the State Duma, ministry representative on human rights Konstantin Dolgov said the main human rights issues in the United States were social inequality, racial and ethnic discrimination, the indefinite detention of prisoners without charge, the functioning of prisons outside the legal system, and extreme overcrowding of prisons.
Dolgov also criticized the United States for censorship, violations of voter rights, and restrictions on the Internet.
He said the case of jailed Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout shows U.S. "double standards" when it comes to human rights.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Rybkov also slammed the U.S. human rights record in comments to journalists on October 22.
