Czech authorities detained a Russian citizen at the Prague airport over the weekend due to an international arrest warrant issued by Moscow, Czech media reported. Yevgeny Gerasimenko is wanted in Russia for alleged financial crimes. He was en route from Latvia to Paris via Prague. Gerasimenko insists the charges against him were trumped-up due to his criticism of Moscow's ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Further details were not immediately available. After Russia launched its full-scale aggression against Ukraine in February 2022, hundreds of people in Russia faced pressure, including arrests and prison terms, for condemning the war.
