Security Officer Gunned Down In Daghestan

Unknown assailants have killed a security officer in Russia's North Caucasus.

Russian Investigative Committee officials in Daghestan say that gunmen opened fire on a vehicle belonging to a senior lieutenant of the Federal Security Service department in the western city of Khasavyurt on December 9.

The officer, whose name was not made public, died at the scene.

Several police officers and gunmen have been killed or injured in counterterrorist operations in Daghestan's Khasavyurt district in recent weeks.
