Russia Says Chance For Nuclear Deal That Would Lift Iran Sanctions

Russia says there is a chance that global talks on Iran's nuclear program will lead to the lifting of UN sanctions imposed on Tehran.

The statement comes a day before Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visits Russia, Tehran's strongest supporter on the UN Security Council.

Iran and six world powers including Russia are seeking a deal under which Tehran would scale back its nuclear program and the sanctions would be lifted.

"Despite the difficult course of the negotiating process, a possibility is emerging to satisfy in full all Iran's integral rights...including the right to enrich uranium, and to lift the sanctions regime," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Russia and Iran also negotiating a multibillion-dollar deal to trade Iranian oil for Russian goods and technology.

Negotiations on this contract are due to begin in Tehran on September 9.
