Supporters of Russian history teacher Nikita Tushkanov, who was imprisoned for criticizing Moscow's war in Ukraine online, said on December 12 that the activist was sent to solitary confinement for seven days for lying on a bed before it was officially sleeping time. The supporters said the prison administration's goal was to justify a possible transfer to a unit with harsher conditions. Tushkanov was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in May on a charge of "repeatedly discrediting Russia's armed forces and the justification of terrorism."
