Uzbek Couple Arrested In Russia For Attempt To Sell Own Children

Police in Russia's Moscow region have arrested a couple from Uzbekistan for an attempt to sell their own children.

An Investigative Committee spokeswoman told journalists on April 8 that the couple intended to sell their 18-month-old son and a newborn daughter for 1 million rubles ($28,100).

The husband and wife were arrested on April 7 in the town of Vidnoye. They face up to 10 years in prison.

In February, two Uzbek women were arrested in Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, on charges of attempting to sell a newborn child for 80,000 rubles ($2,250) to an undercover police officer.
