The United States is “deeply disappointed” by Russia’s “inhumane veto” against the UN renewal of Turkish delivered aid to Syria, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on July 11. The long-running UN humanitarian operation in Turkey has delivered aid to 4 million people in rebel-held northwest Syria since 2014. Aid initially had been delivered through several border points, but with the recent veto the final Turkish border point has been eliminated as a source of aid. “We remain committed to reauthorizing the cross-border mechanism.
