Russian Toddler Survives Mother's Suicide Leap In Bulgaria


Russia's child-protection ombudsman says a 3-year-old Russian girl survived after her mother jumped from a fifth-story apartment in Bulgaria with the child in her arms.

Pavel Astakhov wrote on Twitter on March 18 that the girl's mother died after jumping from a building in the Black Sea port city of Burgas on March 17.

He said the toddler suffered multiple fractures and other injuries and was being treated in a hospital in Burgas.

Astakhov said the woman was 33 years old and had lived in Bulgaria, a popular destination for Russian expatriates, for the last two years.

He said he was trying to find relatives of the girl and considering he possibility of transporting her to Moscow.
