Six members of Pakistan's cricket squad have tested positive for the coronavirus after arriving in New Zealand for a series of matches.

All six have been moved into quarantine and the team's exemption to train while in isolation has been temporarily revoked, New Zealand Cricket said on November 26.

The positive results were from tests on all 53 members of the traveling party on November 24. Two of the six were described as “historical” infections while four were new.

New Zealand Cricket said all the players in the squad had tested negative four times before leaving Lahore.

The squad was required to follow biosecurity protocols from the first day of their 14-day mandatory isolation upon arrival.

New Zealand Cricket said they had been made aware that some members of the Pakistani squad may have breached some of those strict protocols on the first day of isolation.

The measures, in place to prevent COVID-19 being brought into the country, bar teams from socializing, eating, or training together outside their small groups while in isolation.

"We will be having discussions with the tourists to assist them in understanding the requirements," New Zealand Cricket said.

Pakistan are due to play three Twenty20 internationals and two tests from December 18, while a Pakistan A tour will be held concurrently.
