South Korean troops are reported to have mistakenly fired on a passenger plane flying from China.
South Korea's military said troops mistook the plane for a North Korean military aircraft and fired their rifles at it.
The incident took place near the sea border between the two rival Koreas.
The Asiana flight with 119 people on board was flying over Jumun island, some 12 kilometers south of the South Korean military post on Gyodong island.
An Asiana spokesman said the plane was too far away to be in danger.
