The space shuttle "Endeavour" has landed safely at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, ending its final mission to space and thus becoming the next-to-last U.S. shuttle to retire.

The landing closed out a 16-day mission in which the crew put finishing touches on the International Space Station.

The last U.S. shuttle to fly, "Atlantis," is due to launch in July.
