Syria: Regime Hits Damascus Outskirts

Syrian government warplanes and artillery have been bombarding rebel-held areas on the outskirts of the capital, Damascus.

Reports say regime forces have been trying to push rebel fighters away from Damascus airport and block a possible advance on districts of the capital.

In what’s seen as a sign the government has regained some control around the airport, EgyptAir said it would resume scheduled flights to Damascus and Aleppo on December 3.

Flights had been suspended for the previous three days because of poor security.

Elsewhere, state-run media said 15 civilians were killed and 24 wounded in a car-bomb attack in a regime-held district of the central city of Homs.

The SANA news agency called the December 2 blast a “terrorist attack” in the Hamra district of Homs.

Based on reporting from Reuters and AP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
