Syrian Warplanes Fire Rockets At Refugee Camp

Syrian activists say Syrian fighter jets have fired at least two rockets at a Palestinian refugee camp in Damascus.

The attack is said to be the first time warplanes have attacked a Palestinian camp since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said activists on the ground reported at least eight civilians were killed in the Yarmouk camp in the south of Damascus.

Reuters news agency says at least 25 were killed when a rocket hit the mosque where they were sheltering.

Government forces have been trying for several weeks to push back rebels advancing on the Syrian capital.

Also on December 16, a rebel group said its fighters captured an infantry base in the northern city of Aleppo.
