Thousands of people joined celebrations of the 30th anniversary of Tatarstan's Declaration on Sovereignty, also the 100th anniversary of Tatar autonomy, in Kazan on August 30 by Lake Kaban in the city center. A Tatar youth organization invited everyone to wear Tatar outfits and accessories. Guests enjoyed Tatar tea ceremonies, concerts, and ethnic design.
The declaration adopted on August 30, 1990, ensured the rights of Tatars and the population of Tatarstan to self-determination and was intended to create a law-based, democratic state. According to the document, the land, its natural resources, and other resources on the territory of Tatarstan are the exclusive property of the people of Tatarstan.
