Turkey's armed forces said Turkish warplanes have bombed Kurdish rebel hideouts in northern Iraq during a four-day cross border operation, which ended on September 9.

The army said 25 members of the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) were killed during the raids.

Separately, the army said on September 10 that clashes between Turkish soldiers and Kurdish rebels have killed 461 people including 88 soldiers this year in almost 1,000 army operations in Turkey's Kurdish-majority southeast.

The PKK considered a terrorist group by Turkey and much of the international community took up arms in the southeast in 1984 in a conflict that has claimed some 45,000 lives.

Turkish Army operations target rebel hideouts inside the country as well as across the border with Iraq where authorities say rebels are holed up to launch strikes inside Turkey.
