Three Uzbek Men Sentenced To Hang In Malaysia

A Malaysian court has sentenced three Uzbek men convicted of narcotics trafficking to death by hanging.

Shah Alam High Court judge Nurchaya Arshad handed down the sentence on November 8 to Dilbar Jurakulov, 54, Dilbar Nazarov, 39, and Sayor Nurmukhamedov, 58, after finding them guilty of attempting to traffic some 10 kilograms of methamphetamines.

All three men were apprehended at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in September 2010 with portions of the narcotics in their luggage.

The judge rejected the three men's claim that they did not know drug trafficking was a serious crime in Malaysia.

The three also said they were given the narcotics at Tashkent airport by a man known only as Sharukh before they left for Malaysia.
