Nemanja Vidic, the 32-year-old Serbian captain of the Manchester United soccer team, says he is planning to leave the team when his contract expires at the end of the season during the summer.

Vidic has been a key figure in nearly all of Manchester United’s trophy triumphs since he started playing with the team in 2006 after transferring from Moscow Spartak.

But he made only 19 league appearances last season after a severe knee injury in 2011 that led to two major operations.

British press reports suggest Vidic was not offered an extension to his current contract.

Vidic said on February 6 that he does not want to play for any other soccer club in England.

Before joining Moscow Spartak, Vidic played with Red Star Belgrade until July 2004.
