A well-known opposition activist in Belarus has been sentenced to 10 days in jail.

The Moscow District Court in Minsk found the activist, Paval Vinahradau, guilty of using vulgar words in public on August 25 and sentenced him the same day.

He said he is unaware of the specific incident for which he is being sentenced.

Vinahradau is an active member of the Zmena (Change) opposition group.

He has been sentenced to several days in jail 16 times in recent years. Nine of those times were for using vulgar words in public.

Vinahradau and his supporters say the cases against him are politically motivated.
