White House Offices Reopened After Brief Evacuation

The White House offices in the West Wing were evacuated briefly on May 11 after smoke was detected in the building.

Staff were allowed to return and there was no indication of danger to President Barack Obama.

U.S. television channels said the Secret Service had investigated the source of the smoke.

The president's office and top staff offices are located in the West Wing adjacent to the main White House.

Footage showed fire trucks were at the scene.

White House press officials did not immediately respond to calls and e-mails.

The source of the smoke was unclear.
