18 Workers Dead, 10 Missing In Ukraine Mine Accidents

Ukrainian Emergency Situations Ministry says that 17 miners have died and another 10 were missing as a result of an explosion in a coal mine in the Lugansk region in eastern Ukraine.

Just hours later, an elevator at the Bazhana mine in the eastern Donetsk region collapsed, killing one miner and injuring eight others.

Ukraine's coal mines are considered among the most dangerous in the world, with much poorly financed and employing outdated Soviet-era equipment.
