20 Years Since The Death Of Russian Journalist Anna Politkovskaya
- By RFE/RL
October 7 marks the 20th anniversary of the murder of prominent Kremlin critic Anna Politkovskaya, a tenacious investigative reporter who exposed the brutality of Russia's war in Chechnya and documented how President Vladimir Putin curtailed democracy in Russia. Her daughter, Vera, tells RFE/RL how warning signs were ignored. Two decades later, Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov -- a frequent subject of Politkovskaya’s reporting -- remains in power amid continuing allegations of torture, killings, and other abuses.
