Bomb Rips Apart Baghdad Market

9 May 2004 -- Several people have been killed in bomb blast that ripped through a crowded Baghdad marketplace.
Reports are still sketchy, but at least three people were killed and several others were wounded.

Elsewhere in Baghdad, U.S. troops and militia fighters loyal to Shi'a cleric Muqtada al-Sadr clashed sporadically today in Baghdad's Sadr City district. The French AFP news agency reported that at least one of al-Sadr's fighters was killed.

Al-Sadr's militia also clashed today with British forces in the southeastern city of Amarah.

A British military spokesman said that in Al-Basrah, 160 kilometers south of Amarah, three coalition soldiers were wounded when a large explosion occurred near a coalition convoy today.
