1 June 2004 -- The head of the UN nuclear monitoring agency said today that his inspectors have found no clear proof of a military dimension to Iran's efforts to develop nuclear energy.
However, Muhammad El-Baradei, director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), also said it is premature to make a judgment on whether Iran's program has "been dedicated exclusively for peaceful purposes."
The United States contends that Iran's atomic energy program is a front for developing nuclear weapons, but Iran denies that is the case.
El-Baradei made the comments during a NATO Parliamentary Assembly meeting in the Slovak capital Bratislava today.
El-Baradei plans to present an assessment of Iran's nuclear activities to the IAEA board of governors in June.
