7 June 2004 -- The international aid group Doctors Without Borders has said the activities of the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan are putting aid workers at risk.
The director of the group's Dutch branch, Kenny Gluck, criticized the U.S. military today for distributing leaflets linking humanitarian aid with cooperation with coalition soldiers.
Five staff members of Doctors Without Borders were killed in an ambush in Afghanistan last week.
In Afghanistan today, a U.S. soldier was killed and two others were wounded when their convoy was hit by a roadside bomb. Earlier, two Afghan policemen were reported killed in a suspected Taliban attack on their police station in Logar Province.
Also today, election officials said voter-registration sites have opened in Nuristan and Paktika provinces as part of the run-up to September elections.
