10 July 2004 -- The U.S. military in Iraq says Marines clashed today with insurgents in the city of Al-Ramadi, west of Baghdad, killing two of the attackers.
The military said the soldiers opened fire after coming under attack, while residents said U.S. snipers fired at drivers and pedestrians for no apparent reason.
In the northern city of Kirkuk, unknown assailants opened fire today at the offices of a predominately Arab union of landowners and farmers. According to Iraqi police, one guard was killed.
In Kirkuk also, Iraqi police reported that unknown individuals burned to the ground a movie theater owned by a Turkoman businessman.
West of Kirkuk, saboteurs attacked today a natural-gas pipeline with an explosive device. It was not immediately clear to what extent the attack will affect power supplies in the northern region.
