Afghan Forces Capture Four Taliban Mullahs

9 August 2004 -- Afghan forces acting on a tip have captured four mullahs who were regional Taliban commanders in two separate raids since 7 August.
The four mullahs were captured in the southern Uruzgan Province, according to Uruzgan Governor Jan Mohammed, who said none of the four offered any resistance.

Mohammed said none of the four were believed to be from Taliban leader Mullah Omar's inner circle.

The four mullahs provided information that led to other raids in Uruzgan Province. Six suspected Taliban fighters were killed and two wounded during those raids.

Mohammed confirmed the casualty figures, adding that no Afghan soldiers were injured or killed.

In a related story, the Afghan Defense Ministry said on 8 August that its troops arrested 15 suspected Taliban fighters in the southern Helmand Province who were allegedly planning to kill the provincial governor.
