20 August 2004 -- A series of bombs went off at a voter-registration office in western Afghanistan today, injuring six Afghan policemen.
The regional deputy police chief, Mohammed Rasool Khan, said the blasts occurred late yesterday at a UN-run voter registration office in Farah city, near the border with Iran.
U.N. spokesman Manoel de Almeida e Silva said there were three international UN staffers at the site at the time, and none was hurt.
It was not clear who was behind the attack.
Afghan authorities have blamed Taliban militants for a series of deadly attacks on international and local voter-registration workers as the country prepares for its 9 October presidential election.
