NATO To Send 2,000 More Troops To Kosovo

13 September 2004 -- NATO's new Kosovo commander today said that the alliance will send an extra 2,000 troops to Kosovo ahead of elections planned for next month.
Lieutenant General Yves de Kermabon said the deployment will show that the international community is willing to support the democratic process in Kosovo.

De Kermabon said three NATO member nations will supply the troops, but that it is not immediately clear which nations will send them. He also said the troops will stay in the province through October.

UN-administered Kosovo is due to hold parliamentary elections on 23 October.
