The talks centered upon proposals by Britain, France and Germany to offer Iran trade and nuclear fuel incentives if Tehran agrees not to try to produce its own nuclear fuel. Nuclear fuel can be used to power commercial reactors or to develop nuclear weapons.
U.S. State Department spokesman Tom Casey said after the meeting that the European powers "will be presenting their idea to Iran next week."
Representatives from Britain, Italy, France, Japan, Canada, Germany, Russia and the United States attended today's meeting.
The talks come as the International Atomic Energy Agency's board of governors is preparing to meet in Vienna on November 25, at which time the United States is expected to call for the issue of Iran's nuclear development program to be brought before the U.N. Security Council.
Iran adamantly denies accusations it is secretly developing nuclear weapons, and insists its nuclear program is for peaceful energy purposes only.
