22 October 2004 -- Iran has said it will consider a proposal by three European Union countries to receive nuclear technology if Tehran abandons its uranium-enrichment program.
Britain, France, and Germany yesterday presented Iran with new proposals during a three-hour meeting at the International Atomic Energy Agency headquarters in Vienna.
Iranian official Sirus Naseri told reporters after the meeting in Vienna that Tehran has agreed to continue the dialogue and will pursue talks in a few days with the three countries.
There are only few details offered. According to reports, the three countries promised Iran nuclear technology -- including supplying a light-water nuclear reactor -- if Iran suspends all uranium enrichment and reprocessing-related activities for an indefinite period.
Iran has denied that it is seeking to develop a nuclear weapon. The proposal is seen as a last chance for Iran to come clean before the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) decides on 25 November whether Iran is cooperating with it.
