U.S. Says Air Strike Kills Al-Zarqawi Associate

26 October 2004 -- The U.S. military says an associate of Al-Qaeda ally Abu Mus'ab al-Zarqawi has been killed in a U.S. air strike on the Iraqi city of Al-Fallujah.
A U.S. military statement said the air strike, at 0300 hours today in Iraq, killed what it described as a "known associate" of al-Zarqawi.

The statement did not name the person who was killed.

It said recent strikes had "severely degraded" the capabilities of the al-Zarqawi group.

The group, which recently announced it was uniting with Al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for numerous bombings, beheadings, and attacks in Iraq, including the 23 October ambush that left 49 newly trained Iraqi Army soldiers dead.

The United States has offered $25 million for al-Zarqawi's capture or killing.
